Jim Aumann emerged as the new Pirate King after a hard fought and water soaked battle on the high seas of Big Lake. The “race” included many shady pirate like happenings including a plundering of clue buoys by a certain notorious pirate. The race marshal quickly called upon the big boats to apply copious volumes of water to the offender and many small boats joined that fray.

Once back on shore, after the race, the battle started anew with dunkings, soakings, and buckets of water applied freely.

After a change of clothes an excellent pot luck fed the hungry mob with a large collection of delicious chicken dishes, sides and yummy deserts.

Tim Gould wins 2008 Firecracker Regatta

Tim Gould and his new red Buccaneer took first place in the Alaska Sailing Club's 2008 Firecracker Regatta.

Bruce Lalonde took first place in the big boat fleet aboard his Montgomery 15.

Sailing Club Logos--Vote!

Below are five designs for a new Alaska Sailing Club logo. Jody has suggested that these be posted on the blog to let interested folks vote on a favorite. Check these out and see which, if any, you think might work. Feel free to mix and match elements between the designs.

They are black + white for now, so we can focus on just the design. Once we agree on a design, the next step is to make requested changes (font, color, layout, etc.) to arrive at a final design.

Wet Wednesday Series 1 - Results

Live from Big Lake:

It's been a rollicking good time these past three Wednesdays - up to 10 boats on the water, excellent wind and fantastic after race food and drink.

Tom Harrison in his Lido 14 placed first, followed by Bruce Lee in second aboard the 505 and Bob Chivvis took third in the suddenly dangerous and devilish Demon.

Bruce Lalonde scored first in the Big Boat fleet.

Racing Session - June 28th - Starts at Noon in the Clubhouse

What are the three basic rules that form the foundation of 90% of the racing rules?

To find out the answer - show up Sat at the Clubhouse for some brief race discussions followed by some basic on the water drills (wind willing). This will be a great opportunity to get answers (ok, maybe opinions) to those questions that have been troubling you on the racecourse. If you need an excuse to get out - here it is!

2008 Ice Breaker Regatta - Tom Harrison Wins

Tom Harrison and his super slick Lido 14 took the honors in our opening regatta for the 2008 season. The first of the coming Buccaneers were out with Jay and Chris both on the water with their new boats. It was cold, wet and well... a typical Alaskan spring weekend.

This shows how much faster each boat would have had to sail to tie the winner of each race. These results and others for this season will also be consolidated with a links list from our public website at http://www.aksailclub.com/sheet08.htm. I've also updated our homepage on the site and fixed some dead links on our links page.

Thanks for your patience as we worked through some initial training issues with our new Sailwave scoring system.

Special thanks to Tom, Jody and the rest of the Race Committee for putting on a great event under some very trying conditions.

2008 Spring Work Party - Phase II (or the Real Ice Breaker!)

Thanks to all members who pitched in - including, but not limited to - Commodore Tim and Ethan used their Ice Breaker canoe with paddles and pickaxes to open a sliver of water for the docks. Chris spearheaded the gravel work, Keith performed electrical install on the waterfront, Tom and team got the docks in, Jay managed boat parking, TL was everywhere, Bruce completed Lucky's standing rigging (she looks sharp), Jody kept everyone moving (even a few teens) and negociated the MSB parking issue and all the others who helped with all this and more...


Still to complete prior to Ice Breaker Regatta Memorial weekend - connect docks and secure to mooring.

2008 Spring Work Party - Phase I

Jim Aumann and his super roofing team worked all day and long past quitting time on the clubhouse roof project. The May 10th kickoff work party accomplished great things as we count the seconds to an ice free lake and the 2008 sailing season.

ASC on the ice!!

Winter fun with Sails!! Today we tried an experiment with some ice boats out on Lake Lucille in Wasilla. We would like to thank all the folks that showed up and our new friend Dennis who provided the boats. With any luck we will get out again this winter. If anyone is interested in winter sailing on ice contact Chris Remick for more details.
