The Alaska Sailing Club (ASC) is teaching a small boat sailing class this summer at Big Lake for anyone older than 16 and it requires you to attend 4 different sessions. The dates are as follows: Saturday, May 1st, 4:30 to 6:30 PM; Saturday, May 15th, 9AM to 1PM; Thursday, May 27th , 6-8PM and finally, Saturday and Sunday, “On the water” session, June 12 & 13th, 8AM to 5PM.. Class size is limited to 14 to insure that all students spend as much time sailing as possible. If there is enough interest, a second “on the water” session the following weekend, June 19th and 20th. Sailing is an active sport and one must be able to swim two laps in the pool, tread water for 2 minutes and be able to pull themselves out to the deep end of the pool without use of a ladder.
The cost of the course is $475 for a family (allows 2 sailing class slots) and $375 for a single. Additional class benefits include a free ASC membership complete with free unlimited use of the 7 ASC dingy two person sailboats plus full access to the Big Lake property, which has a clubhouse, camping areas, picnic tables, sauna, various grills and an unmatched sunset view of Denali.
